This year the MASN breakthrough to nursing project 2015 is focusing on bringing awareness for epilepsy, diabetes, asthma, and first aid to local students. As part of the project each student will receive a simple first aid kit and there will be a demonstration on how to use the kit by the nursing students. Each nursing school is responsible for choosing one local middle school and focusing on one of the grade levels (6th, 7th, 8th) for the project.
Requirements: ðContact a local school and set-up a scheduled date and time for a program with the students for one grade level. ðContact the different awareness groups to get either a guest speaker or information for the presentation. ðCreate first aid kits for each student in your selected grade. ðTake pictures throughout the process of creating your project. ðPlease fill out the school and chapter evaluations at the end of your project and send them, and the pictures, to MASN so we can keep improving.
Attached to this page, there will be an example of the project from Delta State University as well as the evaluation forms. The project only needs to be done once, but we encourage as many presentations as possible in order to better reach into the communities. The DEADLINE for the project and submission of evaluations is September 30, 2015.
Rewards: A BTN scholarship will be awarded to whichever school that participated most completely in the project. The college chosen can then award the student who participated the most in the project, if they so choose to.
Have fun with the project and encourage others to get involved in spreading awareness throughout your communities!
Contact Information: These foundations have already been contacted in advanced and they have agreed to help with the project throughout the state. You can call the Epilepsy Foundations and they can help you get a speaker, or information, for your project.
