What is Pre-Slating, exactly? Pre-slating is when a potential candidate hoping to run for the state board of directors for the Mississippi Association of Student Nurses has his or her credentials in order prior to the annual convention in October. This includes becoming a member of the National Student Nurses Association and thereby becoming a member of the Mississippi Association of Student Nurses, becoming a delegate for his or her school, and providing adequate credentialing which will be sent in a mass email once the fall semester begins.
What are the pros and cons of pre-slating?
Pre-slating provides one with an enormous advantage over an opponent who would run from the floor at convention.
Pre-slating allows a candidate to campaign before convention even begins, allowing one to get his or her name out to the community of MASN before convention begins.
Pre-slating also allows a candidate to gather one’s thoughts and resources to be prepared to properly campaign at convention.
A pre-slated candidate will have their campaign material prepared ahead of time as well. Perhaps the biggest advantage of pre-slating is assuring your position of candidacy. If the limit of pre-slated candidates is reached before convention, the board will not allow for candidates to run from the floor seeing as an adequate amount of candidates will be available. I am not aware of any cons of pre-slating. I highly suggest it, as it makes the process of elections easier for the entire association.
How do I pre-slate? Pre-slate packet will be posted soon!!
What is the deadline for pre-slating? The DEADLINE set to be a pre-slated candidate for the Nominations and Elections of the 2016 Annual MASN Convention is October 18, 2016. I highly recommend not waiting to the last minute to pre-slate if you are serious about being a member of the state board. Please review the Campaigning Regulations and Guidelines
We look forward to hearing from you soon!
